Check Verification

SCAN

  • Shared Check Authorization Network (SCAN)
  • Check authorization product that uses a network database to accept or reject a check.
  • When a merchant who subscribes to SCAN reports a bad check, the check writer's name goes into the SCAN database. If that person tries to write a check at another SCAN location, the transaction will be declined.

Features

  • If a merchant accepts a check that was approved by SCAN and that check turns out to be bad, SCAN will provide a collection service at no charge to the merchant.
  • The merchant can use a magnetic reader to scan a check's MICR number, or the MICR number can be manually entered on the keypad.
